Local Law Enforcement
Around 50 cars have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Cars, walls and postboxes were marked, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they announced in a release.
Police state they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a man observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued fluid.
The substance had been drawn in the pattern of a swastika, they reported.
Officers then discovered multiple other marked cars and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under legislation prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement say initial examinations suggest the liquid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"There is still no lead as to where it came from; investigators are not yet cognizant of any harm in connection with the occurrence," they added.
Municipal representatives stated they were trying "to solve the mystery" and have requested to the residents for tips.
An important official commented the incident left him without words and needed to be addressed rapidly.
"This act hits the very heart of Hanau and revives the trauma of the far-right terrorist attack half a decade ago," he wrote on social media, recalling the murder of nine victims by a gunman aiming at residents of migrant background in 2020.
