Man confesses to sex offences against young males at summer camp

Courtroom illustration Legal proceedings
The defendant pleaded guilty to 17 criminal counts at Leicester Crown Court on the end of the week

An individual who contaminated candy with sedative and provided them to minors at a youth camp in Leicestershire has pleaded guilty to sexual crimes against two children both nine and ten years old.

The accused was taken into custody after eight children and an older person became sick at the facility in mid-summer.

The elderly man, from that region, pleaded guilty to a total of 17 charges when he was present at the judicial center on the end of the week.

Nevertheless, he denied a single sexual charge he was facing, which was involving a nine-year-old child.

The accused was kept in jail ahead of a subsequent court date on November 28th.

'Sweet game'

The legal representative, presenting evidence, described the defendant's actions to the court.

She said his those affected were under-privileged children who were attending a summer camp which he managed.

The man played a "candy game" with the youngsters, the legal counsel said, in which he would go into the sleeping quarters when they were getting ready for bed and tell them to eat sweets "rapidly".

She stated to the judge the defendant had conducted this practice with the children "repeatedly", and minors had earlier experienced illness the following morning.

She said the man had been capable of justifying this for many years as the minors being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepson had concerns in summer 2025.

The legal representative added: "This year his stepson had suspicions about the activities, justifiably.

"They resolved" to have a look in the man's possessions."

Mrs Prior KC explained items including baby oil, Vaseline and injection devices were discovered, and his stepson contacted the authorities about his worries.

She explained the man proceeded to conduct the "candy game" with six children that evening - July 26th - and they were all ill the following morning.

"The police had not gone out by that time," she stated further.

The regulatory agency, the police conduct office, previously told that it was investigating the police response of the situation.

The legal representative explained the youngsters were having difficulty walking due to their condition, so Ruben's stepson notified the law enforcement a second time.

She explained Ruben then played the "candy game" in a room of five minors.
